A warm, cinnamon-swirled quick bread packed with fresh apples and drizzled with a sweet glaze—this Amish apple fritter bread tastes just like apple pie in loaf form.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 cup milk

Apple Filling

  • 2 cups fresh apples (peeled, cored, chopped – Granny Smith recommended)

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8.5×4.5×2.5-inch loaf pan.

  2. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon for the topping.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until just blended.

  4. In another bowl, mix flour and baking powder. Add dry mixture to the wet ingredients, then stir in milk until smooth.

  5. Pour half of the batter into the pan.

  6. In a separate bowl, toss apples with cinnamon and sugar for the filling.

  7. Layer half the apple mixture over the batter, then repeat with remaining batter and apples. Press apples slightly into the top.

  8. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar topping over the loaf.

  9. Bake for 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  10. Cool in the pan for 30 minutes before drizzling with glaze. Slice and serve

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter and eggs for best texture.
  • Store tightly wrapped at room temp for 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Substitute apples with pears for a seasonal twist.
  • For a dessert version, top with caramel sauce instead of glaze.
