25-Minute Chinese Beef and Broccoli That Beats Takeout

Chinese Beef and Broccoli (One Pan Take-Out)

A simple one-pan version of the classic takeout dish with tender beef and crisp broccoli in a savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl.
  2. Heat one tablespoon oil in a large skillet over high heat.
  3. Add beef and cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from skillet.
  4. Add remaining oil to the skillet. Add broccoli and stir-fry for 3 minutes.
  5. Add garlic and ginger, cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the sauce and water. Bring to a simmer.
  7. Return beef to the skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until sauce thickens.
  8. Serve immediately over cooked rice.

Notes

  • Slice the beef against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes with the garlic.
  • You can substitute tamari for soy sauce for a gluten-free option.
