  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter until smooth, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract, buttermilk, orange zest, and orange juice until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
