Creamy Turnip Gratin Recipe – 8 Layers of Comfort

A creamy and comforting dish made with thinly sliced turnips baked in a rich cheese sauce.

  • 4 medium turnips, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Butter a baking dish.
  3. Layer half the turnip slices in the dish.
  4. Sprinkle half the garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg over turnips.
  5. Pour half the cream over the layer.
  6. Repeat with remaining turnips, seasonings, and cream.
  7. Top with Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses.
  8. Bake for 45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use a mandoline for even slices.
  • Substitute Swiss cheese if Gruyère is unavailable.
  • Add breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
