French Onion Soup Pizza

A unique and delicious twist on traditional French onion soup, this pizza combines caramelized onions, gooey cheese, and a savory broth-infused crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pizza dough
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Fresh thyme for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
  4. Add the beef broth to the skillet and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface and transfer it to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  6. Spread the caramelized onion mixture evenly over the dough.
  7. Top with Gruyère and mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh thyme before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth instead of beef broth.
  • Feel free to add additional toppings like mushrooms or bacon for extra flavor.
  • Make sure to let the onions caramelize fully for the best flavor.
