Jack O Lantern Cookies

Delicious and festive Jack O Lantern cookies perfect for Halloween celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Orange and green food coloring
  • Royal icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until combined.
  6. Divide the dough into two portions; color one orange and the other green.
  7. Roll out the orange dough and cut into pumpkin shapes.
  8. Roll out the green dough and cut out leaves and stems.
  9. Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  10. Let cool and decorate with royal icing to create Jack O Lantern faces.

Notes

  • For a softer cookie, do not overbake.
  • Use gel food coloring for more vibrant colors.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
