  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 tbsp black food coloring gel
  • 1 batch cream cheese frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then stir in hot water and black food coloring gel.
  5. Pour batter into liners, filling each 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
  8. Pipe cream cheese frosting onto each cupcake and serve.
