These classic Mom’s Apple Fritters are golden, crispy on the outside, soft and filled with apples on the inside. Perfectly sweet with cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar, they’re easy to make and even better when served warm.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart vegetable oil (for deep-frying)

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon white sugar

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ⅔ cup milk

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 3 cups apples, peeled, cored, and chopped

  • 1 cup cinnamon-sugar (or powdered sugar for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a Dutch oven or deep pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add milk, beaten eggs, and 1 tablespoon oil. Mix until just combined.

  4. Fold in chopped apples evenly.

  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil, frying 2–3 minutes per side until golden.

  6. Remove fritters and drain on paper towels.

  7. While still warm, roll in cinnamon sugar or dust with powdered sugar.

  8. Serve warm for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Keep oil at a consistent temperature to avoid greasy or undercooked fritters.

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.

  • Best enjoyed fresh, but can be reheated in the oven.
