Traditional Lasagna

A classic Italian dish made with layers of pasta, meat, cheese, and rich tomato sauce.

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat; drain excess fat.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Spread a layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
  6. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, half of the ground beef, and a third of the mozzarella cheese.
  7. Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of noodles topped with marinara sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
  9. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with sautéed vegetables.
  • Lasagna can be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
  • Feel free to add more herbs for extra flavor.
