Vegan Orange Chicken (Tofu) Vegan Orange Chicken

A vegan twist on classic orange chicken using tofu. Crispy tofu coated in a tangy orange sauce.

  • 1 block firm tofu (14 oz)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp orange zest

Instructions

  1. Press tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess water.
  2. Cut tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  3. Coat tofu pieces in cornstarch.
  4. Heat oil in pan over medium heat.
  5. Fry tofu until golden brown on all sides.
  6. Remove tofu and drain on paper towels.
  7. In same pan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, maple syrup, vinegar, ginger, garlic, and pepper flakes.
  8. Simmer sauce for 3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  9. Add tofu back to pan and toss to coat.
  10. Sprinkle with orange zest before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice for best flavor.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
  • Serve over rice for a complete meal.
